📷 Broken OEM Camera on Jayco Greyhawk - Warranty or Aftermarket? (Bought from HG Brokerage)

Hey fellow RVers! 👋 I bought a 2023 Jayco Greyhawk 29MV from HG Brokerage about 6 months ago. Everything has been great until last week when the OEM backup camera stopped working (Furrion Vision S system - the camera on the rear wall). I checked fuses, connections, nothing. It's dead.

I have the extended warranty from HG Brokerage (the 5-year coverage). Should I file a warranty claim with them to replace the OEM camera, or should I just buy an aftermarket replacement? The OEM Furrion camera costs around $350-400. Aftermarket options are $150-250.

Has anyone dealt with camera warranty claims through HG Brokerage? How was the experience? I'm a full-time RVer so I need this fixed ASAP for backing into tight campsites! Thanks! 🚐📷

Mike, I'd go aftermarket. The OEM Furrion cameras are overpriced and honestly not that great. I replaced mine with a Haloview 7-inch wireless system for $180 and it's MUCH better - better night vision, wider angle, and it pairs with my phone too. The warranty claim through HG Brokerage might take weeks of back-and-forth. For $180, just buy it yourself and be done in 2 days. Plus aftermarket often has better features! 📷

@TechNomad - Thanks for the recommendation! Does the Haloview fit the same mounting bracket? My Jayco has the standard Furrion mount. Don't want to drill new holes in the fiberglass rear cap.

Mike - I'd use the HG Brokerage warranty. That's what it's for! I filed a claim for a broken awning motor on my Winnebago last year. Process was simple: called them, they asked for photos and a video, approved within 48 hours, and they sent a mobile tech to my campsite. Total cost to me: $0. The OEM camera will match your existing monitor. Aftermarket might have compatibility issues. Why pay out of pocket when you already paid for the warranty? 🤔

@FullTimeFrank - That's helpful! How long did the whole process take from first call to repair? I'm in Texas and moving to Arizona next week, so I need something relatively fast.

Mike, go aftermarket 100%. I replaced my Furrion with an AMTIFO Wireless Backup Camera (Amazon, $159). It took 15 minutes to install - same bracket, same plug. The image quality is WAY better than the OEM Furrion - HD instead of SD, and it has infrared night vision. Plus, the warranty process might require you to send the broken camera back first, leaving you without a camera for a week or more. Just buy a new one and move on. I can send you the Amazon link if you want. 📦

@WeekendWarrior - Yes please send that link! $159 sounds great. Did you have to change the monitor too or does it pair with the existing Furrion monitor?

Mike - I strongly suggest using the HG Brokerage warranty. Here's why: if something ELSE fails later (like the wiring harness or the monitor), having an aftermarket camera might void coverage on the whole system. I learned this the hard way with a refrigerator issue. Stick with OEM through warranty - it keeps everything consistent and covered. Their claims process took me 5 days total from call to repair. Very efficient. 📋

@SnowbirdSarah - That's a really good point about voiding coverage on related components. I didn't think about that. The Furrion monitor is still working fine. If I replace just the camera with aftermarket, will it pair with my existing monitor?

As a mobile RV tech, here's my professional take: Most aftermarket cameras DO NOT pair with the Furrion monitor. They use different wireless protocols. So if you go aftermarket, you'll likely need to replace BOTH the camera AND the monitor ($300-400 total). That said, aftermarket systems often have better features (split screen, multiple camera inputs).

Warranty through HG Brokerage will replace just the camera (free) and keep your existing monitor. I've processed warranty claims with them - they're actually pretty fast. My vote: use the warranty for now. If it fails again outside warranty, then upgrade to a full aftermarket system. 🔧

@RVMechanicRay - This is exactly the kind of expert advice I needed! So aftermarket would need a whole new system. That's $300-400 anyway, same as OEM. Might as well use the warranty then. Thank you! 🔧

Mike, I have the SAME Jayco Greyhawk 29MV (2022) and had the exact same camera failure. I filed a claim through HG Brokerage's warranty. They approved it in 2 days, shipped a new Furrion camera directly to my campground, and I installed it myself in 10 minutes. Total cost: $0. Don't overthink this - use the warranty! That's why you bought it. The Furrion camera is actually decent when it works. You just got a lemon unit. 👍

@JaycoJim - That's super reassuring! Same rig, same problem, and HG Brokerage came through. I'm going to call them today. Thanks for sharing! 🙌

UPDATE: I called HG Brokerage warranty department yesterday. They were SUPER helpful. Asked for a photo of the camera not working and a short video. Approved within 4 hours! They're shipping a replacement Furrion Vision S camera overnight. Should be here tomorrow. Total cost to me: $0. Thanks to everyone who recommended going the warranty route - you saved me $350 and kept my system OEM! 🎉

🎉 FINAL UPDATE: CAMERA INSTALLED AND WORKING PERFECTLY! 🎉

The replacement Furrion camera arrived from HG Brokerage yesterday (took 2 days total). I installed it in 10 minutes - just unscrewed the old one, unplugged, plugged in the new one, and screwed it back. Fired right up! Crystal clear image, just like new.

HUGE thanks to @FullTimeFrank, @SnowbirdSarah, @RVMechanicRay, and @JaycoJim for convincing me to use the warranty instead of going aftermarket. You guys saved me money AND kept my system 100% OEM-compatible. The aftermarket option would've required replacing the whole system ($300-400) and might have created compatibility issues.

For anyone wondering: HG Brokerage's warranty process was FAST and EASY. Called Monday, approved Monday night, camera arrived Wednesday, installed Wednesday. Can't beat that! I'm so glad I bought the extended warranty from them.

Now back on the road - heading to Arizona next week! Thanks again, everyone! This forum is the best. 🚐📷🌵
